The feedback I got was the format was fun. now with a season under our belts, teams can build and practice what they have learned. If we drop the size of the teams I think we would be best served by keeping the positions the same. I didnt get any complaints on the side of the events.
So we would always have a Sniper, Capt ,Scout and Heavy Gunner even if we ran a 5 man.
If you have any complaints about the balance of the positions now would be the time to vent!

I still think 10 man is the best team size for a woods format. The smaller the team the quicker the game. In a 10 man you can regroup retreat and come back or maybe I am just old:)

Absolutely Tom, 10 man teams are ideal woodsball size. We love playing with that amount. It's a magical number in the woods ;). BUT, if dropping the size to 7+1 means more teams will sign up, then I think it is a good move. More teams = League grows. While 10+1 is more fun to me and I would love to see it remain the way, I know it was difficult for many groups to field that many. We would support either decision (8 or 11).

Concerning positions, if we run 7+1 then I think they should remain the same (as you mentioned). Captain, Scout, Sniper, Heavy + (4) Ranger.

If the team got any smaller, you could keep those positions, but I would recommend changing up the markers restrictions for those positions. Otherwise Skills team would be (3) electros and (2) mechs. Kind of defeats the point of Skills. If it's 7+1 though, you still have (3) electros and (5) mechs. A good ratio in my opinion.

Tactical Division....WHY? I still do not see the point. The Tac Division is so close to Open, it doesn't make any sense to me. My recommendation would be to drop back to two divisions. Simplify. You want to dump a lot of paint, go Open. You want to rely a little more on stealth, go Skills.

my understanding of the tac division was that it had a reduced entry fee, reduced prize package, and was intended to attract people whose skills weren't the level of the pros that came to play in both the open and skills divisions. while this didn't present much of a problem at the smaller events like dallas, it can make a huge difference in california. i don't see a problem with keeping this division around.

Tactical division is definitely needed. Playing against the pros is great. However, for this to be a viable tournament series, amature teams need to have a realistic shot at winning. Teams that have pro level aspirations (or ones that just like the challenge) can always play in open. My guess is that tactical division will become the biggest division next year.

I think the tactical division is needed to let new teams and teams who are not interested in being super competive have a slower paced game. In CA ,Chicago and PA the skills teams had full proteams playing. It is good to play proteams but also good to have a chance to win a division.

You don't learn as much playing people you have a good shot at beating. You learn from getting your butt handed to you. Why did I just get smoked? Oh ya I should change this...
Part of the fun of playing is to play against those pro's. Would any of you who played against Bob Longs' team trade that experience for the fact that he is a pro? And didn't a non-pro team actually beat his team? Full on pro's aren't invincible they just have more practice (probably) and better gear (probably). If you limit RoF or total paint used per game, the field is fairly level.

There is the biggest difference between Pro's and non-pro/just for fun teams. The money for equipment and paint. We play hard and always try to learn from playing all the pro teams we have to play, but I'm about fed up with it...I feel we just waste paint alot to try and hang close with them only to be over ran anyway. We endded up playing hopper ball in the SPPL finals this year because we had to play 2 pro teams twice and after getting beat(baddly) by both the first time, we decided to play stand up ball and conserve paint for our finals game in our class. I had fun doing it, I played pump, but it comes down to the money it takes to play at that level and maybe having some fun if you can vs. playing all out against a similar team for a better experience and more fun. Like between the Heretics and us, always close and dang good games I think. Just my $0.02...

no less then 8 players on the field, plus a sniper, 10bps in semi for electro marker, no R/T, if your mech marker can shoot faster on pull, one shot then fine. mark the heavy gunner with a special arm band that would idenify him on the filed, plus a players card that states player as a heavy gunner but to 15bps. limit paint? cant out shoot someone if you have no paint, must play smarter. have three obj's alone mid field to spread players out. change point value of obj's just before start ie (1-2-1), but then (2-1-1), just to mix things up, like a frago. change of plans in thirty seconds. play teams in your bracket first then play open teams , you know warm up little, learn the field. keep fields as dense as possible. remember this is the fun thing we do in our lives, keep it fun!

Why yes....yes we did...as a Skills team.

Is Tactical the exact same rules/markers restrictions as Open, just not for pros?

And Tom, I just saw the 2009 Standings, how do the seed points work?

Yep, also a bit cheaper with a lesser prize value.

Gotcha. After seeing the 2009 standings, it appears the Open and Tactical Divisions were pretty balanced in numbers. I take back my vote to remove Tactical Div. A lot of people enjoy it. That's good for the league.
